Chattie Byrd

Chattie Price Byrd, 89, passed away on Tuesday March 19, 2019, at Wesley Long Hospital after a year of declining health.  She was born in Union County to the late John Henry and Bertha Chaney Price and was married for 47 years to the late Robert Daniel "Bob" Byrd.  After attending Unionville High School, she graduated from Women's College (now UNC-G) with a BS degree.

She married Bob in 1951 and moved to Burlington, where she spent most of her adult life.  Along with raising two daughters, she held a fulfilling 30-year career at Carolina Biological Supply Company.  She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend.  Her happiest times were spent with family.

Chattie is survived by her daughter, Lynette Amick (Rick), two grandchildren, Nick and Charlotte Reynolds, and numerous nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her husband, daughter Brenda Byrd Powell, parents, eight siblings, and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service to celebrate Chattie's life will be held at Elon Community Church on Sunday, March 31st, at 1:30 p.m. by Reverend Randy Orwig.  A giver in death as in life, her body has been donated to DUMC for the purpose of medical research.
