Charlie Sandy

Burlington - Charlie Edward Sandy, 80, passed away Monday, December 31, 2018 at Alamance Regional Medical Center surrounded by his family. He was born on May 21, 1938 in Sampson County to the late Willie Wesson Sandy, Sr. and Stella Mae Smith Sandy and was the husband of 58 years to Phyllis Townsend Sandy who survives.

Charlie retired from P. Lorillard Tobacco Company after 28 years of service. He was a member of Belmont Baptist Church and was a US Army veteran.

Survivors other than his wife, Phyllis Townsend Sandy, include his sisters, Doris Norris and Elsie Broom; a brother, Paul Sandy; his best friend, Bruce Norwood; and Karen Dean, his niece that helped him during his sickness. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Willie "Bill" Wesson Sandy, Jr. and Bobby Sandy.

The funeral service will be held at 2:00pm Friday, January 4, 2019 at Belmont Baptist Church by Rev. Nathaniel Hobbs with the burial to follow at Alamance Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 12:30pm to 1:45pm Friday prior to the service at the church and other times at the home.
