Burlington-Charlie Tinnin Pyles, Jr. age 90, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, September 6, 2015. He was a resident at the Village of Brookwood and a native of Alamance County. Charlie was raised at West Burlington United Methodist Church where he was Lay Leader, for many years, delegate to annual conferences, teacher of the Men's Bible Class and member of the United Methodist Men. After the church building was destroyed by fire, Charlie and the congregation built and moved to the First United Methodist Church of Elon. He continued to teach the Men's Bible Class and attend the United Methodist Men. Charlie also helped deliver bread to first-time visitors of the church and always had a warm welcome for everyone .Charlie was employed for over 80 years with Asher-McAdams Drug. He served in the US Navy as a pharmacist mate in both the Atlantic and Pacific Theatre during WWII. Charlie was a Christian gentleman always properly attired and wearing a contagious smile. He spoke at many funerals of friends and family sharing his faith and how it was lived out in the life he was eulogizing. Charlie was a loving and devoted husband and father and will be missed by all who knew him. Survivors include his daughters, Susan Pyles of Gibsonville and Denise Stegall and husband, Dan of Gibsonville. He was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Anne Boswell Pyles; parents, Charlie Tinnin Pyles, Sr. and Blake Crutchfield Pyles; sisters, Barbara Bernice Coble and Nelda Wolfe and a brother, James E. Pyles. The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of Hospice and Village at Brookwood for their kind and compassionate care for Charlie. A service to celebrate his life will be held on Tuesday, September 8, 2015 at 2:00pm at First United Methodist Church of Elon by Rev. Keith Sexton and Chaplain Jeff Knudson. There will be a reception and visitation for family and friends immediately following the service at the church. A private burial will be held prior to the services at Pine Hill Cemetery. Charlie's body will be available for viewing after 1:00 pm on Monday at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory.
