Charlie Oakley

BURLINGTON- Charlie Bernice Oakley, age 93, of 2034 Woodland Ave., passed away Friday, August 10, 2012 at the Village of Brookwood after several months of failing health. A native of Person County, he was the son of the late Charlie Cleveland and Aldine Foy Oakley and husband of Virginia Walker Oakley who survives. He was a member of Beverly Hill United Church of Christ, Masonic Bula Lodge #409 AF&AM, the Burlington Moose Lodge and was an Army Air Force Veteran of WWII. Charlie was proud to have been a member of the North Carolina Highway Patrol, retiring after 24 years of service. Survivors include his wife of 70 years, Virginia Walker Oakley of the home; daughters, Alice Faye Oakley of Burlington and Linda Joye Oakley Massey of Norfolk, VA; 4 grandchildren; several great grandchildren; three sisters, Janie Westmoreland of Thomasville, Edith Blackard of Burlington and Claire Regan of Roxboro. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 PM Sunday, August 12, 2012 in the Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Jim Owen and Dr. Dace Lewis. Interment will follow at Alamance Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory from 5-6 PM Saturday afternoon and other times at the residence.
