Burlington – Charlie Hackney Capps, Jr., 72, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, August 22, 2021. He was born in Alamance County on November 12, 1948 to the late Charlie Hackney Capps, Sr. and Alene Blanchard Capps and was the husband of 21 years to Carolyn Faucette Capps of the home.
Hackney was a member of Grace Memorial Baptist Church. He worked as a mechanic most of his career and was a volunteer fireman for Elon Fire Department. He enjoyed flea markets, trips to the mountains, and his annual family fishing trip to Ocracoke. He also loved singing and play his guitar, especially at church. Hackney’s daily tradition included a trip to Wendy’s for lunch and butter pecan ice cream every night after dinner. Most of all, he was a devoted Christian and family man.
Survivors include his wife, Carolyn; sons, Charles “Chuck” Capps, Craig Capps (Patricia); stepson, Gary Mulherin (Melissa), stepdaughter, Christina Lewis (Todd); five grandchildren; brother, Richard Capps (Sharon); sister, Edna Younger (Fred), Judith Johnson, Patricia Morris, Cheryl Dawson (Eddie) and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Debbie Capps; sisters, Becky Anderson, Mary Ruth Turner and a brother, Sam Capps.
A service to celebrate his life will be held at 2:00pm on Wednesday, August 25, 2021 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Tony Honeycutt with the burial to follow at Alamance Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 5-7pm on Tuesday at Lowe Funeral Home & Crematory and other times at the home.
