Maj. Chuck Wood, USAF Ret. Charles Eldridge Chuck Wood, U.S.Air Force, Ret., age 78, of 1013 Brookview Dr. passed away Wednesday, March 30, 2011 at Hospice Home. A native of Alamance County, he was the husband of Frances Danieley Wood and son of the late Samuel Talmage and Lois Shelton Wood. Maj. Wood retired from the Air Force after serving 20 years as a Navigator/Bombadier. During his Air Force service, he received the Distinguished Flying Cross with Bronze Star, Bronze Star Medal, Air Medal with 5 Bronze Stars, Air Force Commendation Medal, 2 Air Force Outstanding Unit Awards, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal with 1 Bronze Star, Vietnam Service Medal with 3 Bronze Stars, Air Force Longevity Service Award, Armed Forces Reserve Medal and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal. He was later employed as a Cost Accountant with Cone Mills Corporate Headquarters and was a member of Westside Fellowship. Survivors include his wife, Frances Danieley Wood of the home; sons, Charles Wade Wood and wife Sharon of Albuquerque, NM; David Alan Wood and wife Nancy of Centreville, VA and James Thomas Jim Wood and wife Michelle of Elon; daughter, Debra Faye Wood of Warrenton, VA; former daughter-in-law, Melissa Faucette Wood of Colorado Springs, CO; and close family friend, Allison Page; grandchildren, Douglas Adam Wood, Jeffrey Michael Wood, David Alan Wood, II, Catherine Grace Wood, Peter William Wood, Jacqueline Lee Wood, Samuel Henry Wood, Jeremy David Wood and Joshua Daniel Wood; step granddaughters, Emily Baxter Wysocki and husband Nathan and Megan Baxter Baron and husband Kevin; step great granddaughters, Kinsey Wysocki and Natalie Baron. Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm Saturday in the Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Michael Mitchener. Interment will follow in Magnolia Cemetery. Mr. Wood will remain at Lowe Funeral Home through the funeral service. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-8pm Friday and other times at the home.
