Charles Edward Rumbley, 86 of Charlotte, NC, formerly of Burlington, NC passed away peacefully at home Saturday, December 16, 2023 with his family by his side. Charles was born in Alamance County, NC on January 30, 1937. He was the son of Hoyle Crouse Rumbley and Mildred Whitesell Shoffner.
He is preceded in death by his father, Hoyle Crouse Rumbley, his mother, Mildred Whitesell Shoffner, his stepfather, Richard Shoffner, his stepbrother, JR Shoffner and his stepson, Scott Morton.
He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Patricia (Patsy) Rumbley, his sister, Linda Daniels, stepsisters Shelby Jean McClean & Bernice Shoffner-May, his son, Keith Rumbley (wife Virginia), his daughter Gina Rumbley, and his grandchildren, Erika Rumbley, Colin Rumbley, Brianna Muro and Elliott Pratt.
Charles loved developing property and building homes. Along with his business Partner, Jim Johnson, Charles created the Heartland Homes manufacturing facility in Henderson, NC and Heritage Acres in Fayetteville, NC.
Charles spent his retirement years living by the water so he could enjoy his favorite pastime, fishing and traveling extensively with his wife Patsy and their close “travel” friends. Charles loved to discuss politics, old cars and fishing. He loved life, laughter, telling stories to friends, the more than occasional prank and he loved to dance.
Funeral services will be held 1 PM Wednesday, December 20, 2023, officiated by Rev. Bob Disher and Rev. Ben Bishop at St. Marks Church, 1230 St. Marks Church Rd, Burlington, NC with visitation between 12:00-12:45PM.
