Burlington, NC Charles McKinney, age 85, died suddenly at Duke University Medical Center on Monday, October 14, 2013. He was a native of Alamance County and the husband of the late Virginia Love McKinney. Charles retired after 41 years as a customer service supervisor for Burlington Industries. Charles was currently on the staff of Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory having served for over 17 years. He was a US Army veteran and was very active in the Hospice League of Alamance-Caswell working in the annual Hospice Flea Market for 20 years. Charles had a servant's heart, baking cakes and sending cards to shut-ins and his church family. He was an active member of People's Memorial Christian Church where he served as a deacon for 23 years. Survivors include his sons, Charles Roger McKinney and wife, Fonda and Randy Lynn McKinney and wife, Cathy, both of Burlington; grandchildren, Joseph Brent McKinney, Brandon Lee Roney, Skyler Brooke McKinney and Kealy Lauren McKinney, all of Burlington and great grandchildren, James Ezekiel Roney and Hannah Elizabeth Roney and sister-in-law, Janie McKinney of Burlington. He was preceded in death by his parents, Pierson Brooks and Iona Kimbro McKinney; brother, Marvin McKinney and sisters, Hattie Marshall, Erma M. Ward, Dorothy M. Beal, Lillian M. Ross, Mildred M. McNeil, Louise M. Thomas and Elva M. Klinger. A celebration of his life will be held on Wednesday, October 16, 2013 at 2:00 pm at People's Memorial Christian Church by Rev. John Shields and the burial will follow at Pine Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm on Tuesday at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory and other times at the home of Randy and Cathy McKinney.
