Charles Fondow

Charles Boyd Fondow, age 64, of Wichita St., Houston, TX, passed away Thursday, March 17, 2011 in Queen Elizabeth Hospital, St. Michael, Barbados. A native of Alamance County, he was the son of the late Harold Charles and Alma Shepherd Fondow and grandson of Bertha Shoe Shepherd, whom he called Twomama. He was a 1965 graduate of Walter Williams High School, received his nursing degree from UNC/Chapel Hill, his Doctorate of Public Health from the University of Texas and later retired from the Veterans Administration Hospital in Houston, TX. Charlie loved to travel and had traveled all over the world. He is survived by his partner, Alexi; brother, Kenneth Harold Fondow and wife Patricia of Greensboro; sister, Betty Fondow Cross and husband Jerry of Burlington; nephews, Jonathan Fondow and wife Debbie and Timothy Cross and wife DeeAnne; nieces, Tammy Cross Turner and husband Chick and Jennifer Fondow Stone and husband Keith; great nephew Bryan Cross; great nieces, Mikhayla Turner, Mackenzie Turner, Meredith Turner, Elizabeth Fondow and Ansley Fondow. Memorial services will be held at 4:00pm Wednesday in the Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Fred Treadwell. Interment will follow in Alamance Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at Lowe Funeral Home from 3:00 3:45pm prior to the service.
