Cecil Charles Dozier, 89, went home to be with the Lord with his wife by his side on Thursday, December 28, 2023 at his home. He was born on July 31, 1934 in Walker County, Alabama to the late Grady Lee and Lorene Busby Dozier. He was the husband of Maudie Compton Dozier for 63 years who survives.
Charles served as a minister for many years and worked in various Textile Plants until his retirement. He was a member of New Hope Baptist Church and the Welcome Bible Class. He served as an usher and helped with the visitation ministry. Charles was a US Army veteran during the Korean War. During his time in service, while he was stationed in Germany, he traveled extensively throughout Europe. Charles was an avid fan of Alabama Football, UNC Tarheel Basketball and the Kansas City Royals Baseball team. He collected pocket knives and marbles, a hobby which began while he was growing up. Gospel Singing and Bluegrass music were an important part of his life and traveling. Charles was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. To know Charles is to know he lived a life serving Christ and desired others to also come to know Jesus.
Charles is survived by his wife of 63 years. Maudie C. Dozier of the home; his children, Vicki Pruden and husband, Gary of Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina, Cindy Shepherd and husband, Tim of Burlington, Keith Dozier of Greensboro and Paula Lassi and husband, Tony of Burlington; 10 grandchildren and 19 Great Grandchildren,: sisters, Shirley Bates and husband, Danny of Clanton, Alabama, Betty Carroll of Tuscaloosa, Alabama and Brenda Dozier of Atlanta, Georgia; brothers, Bobby Dozier and wife, Ingrid of Winfield, Alabama and Jimmy Dozier and wife, Linda of Amory Mississippi; his pet cat, “Sissy”. He was preceded in death by his parents and several siblings.
A service to celebrate Charles’s life will be held at 2:00pm Thursday, January 4, 2024 at New Hope Baptist Church by Pastor Randy Hobbs. The family will receive friends from 12:45-1:45PM prior to the service at the church. A private burial was held for the family with military honors by the US Army.
