Charles M. Coleman, Jr. of Burlington, age 89, passed into heaven on March 9, 2023. Born in Danville, VA, Charles graduated from Elon College and was a proud veteran of the United States Air Force and Air Force Reserve. He was the founding director of the Burlington Housing Authority where he especially cared for the senior residents. He was a past president of the local Full Gospel Business Men’s Fellowship International chapter and a past member of the local Salvation Army board. He delivered food with his children and grandchildren for Loaves and Fishes Ministry. In his retirement years he enjoyed making deliveries as a driver for Mastercraft Caskets.
Charles was a Christian who lived his life in the service of others, whether it be giving away the bounty of his gardens, or spending time with his family at an extended Topsail Island vacation. He loved reading his Bible, music, sports, history, airplanes, fishing, and attending the annual Christmas Parade with family every year. The family business, Porcelain Treasures, was also a source of joy for Charles and his wife, Marian, and it took them to many interesting cities and provided many years of enjoyment for them and those that enjoyed their creations.
Charles is survived by his wife of 61 years, Marian Smith Coleman, his children, Sabrina Roberts, Charles Coleman III (Connie), and Laura Collins (Tim), eight grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles M. Coleman, Sr. and Cassie Coleman Littell, and sisters Jeanette Moss Ware and Carol Chapman Bond.
The funeral service will be at Lowe Funeral Home on Monday, March 13 at 2:00 with graveside service and burial to follow at Pine Hill Cemetery. The family will receive visitors prior to the service from 12:45-1:45.
The family wishes to thank the VA Medical Center and Hospice in Durham for their wonderful care during the past few weeks.
