Chip Loved Heights RIP Chip Joyner (June 27, 1952 – April 4, 2022)
Chip loved heights: climbing
mountains, topping trees, hot air
ballooning, parasailing,
working high-rise roofs,
climbing ladders: all were his
reach for the sunset.
He loved water: the
ocean, the marsh, canal boats
in France, and surfing.
He was “all in” with
everything he did: surfing,
playing pool, tennis,
fixing up his home
and his beloved antique
fifties red pickup.
Chip loved music of
many genres, losing him-
self in each new piece.
He had high standards;
He failed to understand when
others had less time
for him than he had
for them, but he reached out again
and again and again.
Infinitely forgiving,
he bore the jests others made
of his quirky ways.
A joke always ready,
his impish grin belied a
childhood of abuse.
All contradictions:
He didn’t see dust, but each
little ding wounded.
He would gladly do
whatever you asked him to do -
on his time-table.
He was devoted
to his mother, his sister,
and his many friends.
He was so much more
than his shrinks’ diagnoses:
OCD, bipolar….
Chip loved heights, water,
jokes, Muldoons, and us: all his
reach for a sunset.
