Charles Roy "Charlie" Baker, 80, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 28, 2015 at the Hospice Home surrounded by his family. He was born in Clarkton, MO to the late Roy and Ada Nell Baker and was married for 56 years to Peggy Baker who survives. Charlie was a chemical engineer who helped design and build the solid propellant or "rocket motor" as he called it for the Minute Man Missile. His signature is on the actual blue print. Mr. Baker was a pilot, knife maker, gunsmith, and loved working with wood and building furniture that he gave to his family. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather who truly enjoyed just spending time with his family. He is survived by his wife, Peggy of the home, daughter, Tara Jay Ramsey of Ankeny, IA son, Todd Amy Baker of Mebane; grandchildren, Emily and Jake Ramsey, Catherine, Caroline, Caleb and Caden Baker and sisters, Deanna Danny Thomas and Janet Skidmore, both of Missouri. A private family memorial service will be held at a later date. The family will receive friends from 3-5 pm Saturday at Lowe Funeral Home & Crematory. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Hospice Home, 918 Chapel Hill Rd., Burlington, NC 27215 or to The Presbyterian Home of Hawfields, Attn: Business Office, 2502 S. NC 119, Mebane, NC 27302.
