Carolyn H. Fitch of Gibsonville, born to Irene Troxler Howerton and Garland D. Howerton on March 10, 1946, went home to be with the Lord on June 12, 2023. She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Gerald “Doc” Fitch of Gibsonville; her children, Jeff and Karen Fitch of Greensboro, Ann Modlin of Gibsonville, and Gerald and Mary Fitch, Jr. of Reidsville; her grandchildren, Amanda Fitch, Zachary and Brittany Fitch, Leslie Modlin, Tyler Modlin, Nick and Kayleigh Modlin, Megan Fitch, and Caitlin Fitch; her great-grandchildren, Abigail Miller, Aiyden Walker and Levi Fitch; her siblings, Marcie Howerton, Debbie and Charles Black, and Edker Howerton. She is also loved and remembered by her former daughter in law, Wanda Lester.
She was preceded in death by Etta and Darrell Newton, Gladys Howerton, Buster and Dot Howerton, and Louise Howerton, along with many nieces and nephews.
Known to her grandchildren as “Mawmaw”, Carolyn was a small woman with a giant heart. She worked as a hairdresser in Adorn Beauty Salon for 36 years in Burlington. As a lifelong member of Shiloh Methodist Church, she spent many years as a youth teacher. Carolyn served as a chair for the Howard T Scholarship, President of the Red Hat Society at White Oak Manor, member of the AO Civitan Club, as well as many years volunteering wherever needed.
A graveside service will be held Friday, June 16, 2023 at 4 PM at Shiloh Community Church Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the donor’s favorite charity.
“I wish to acknowledge my cousins whom have gave me lots of fun in my years here on earth. Thanks for that and I’ll see you again. Now go home and love each other as I have loved you. I am at peace with my Savior. What a beautiful place to be.”
