Carol Pruitt Harris, 89, passed away peacefully on Monday May 1, 2023 at Mebane Ridge with her family by her side. She was born in Laurel Springs, North Carolina on April 12, 1934 to the late Fred T. Pruitt and Laura Atwood Pruitt. She graduated from Glade Valley High School in the mountains of Allegheny County. It was there she met her husband of 65 years, the late Earl Dean Harris. They moved to Burlington in 1951 and raised their 3 children there until 1975 when they moved to Stone Mountain, Georgia, returning to Burlington in 1997.
Carol was a member of Holly Hill Baptist Church and a former member of Grove Park Baptist Church. She was active in the senior adult community at both churches.
Carol was a homemaker and an avid gardener with a special love for irises. She was a impeccable seamstress making most of her clothes and doing custom work for family and friends. She was a loving and devoted mother and grandmother, and loved spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Carol made her home over the past 5 years at Mebane Ridge Assisted Living. She loved maintaining their flower and herb gardens. She was an avid walker and enjoyed being outside more than inside. She will be remembered for her radiant smile and her love for the other residents.
Carol was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Dean Harris, her parents, Fred T. and Laura Atwood Pruitt, her brother Herman F. Pruitt, and her daughter-in-law Teresa Mann Harris.
She is survived by her sister, Linda Pruitt Gluck (Bill) of Charlotte; her brother Kenneth Pruitt (Clara) of Winston-Salem; her children , son, Dean Harris (Karen) of Graham, daughter, Robin Harbuck (Robert) of Ormond Beach, Florida, son, Lee Harris (Julie) of Bainbridge, Georgia; her grandchildren, Bethany Walker (Steven), Hayden Harbuck (Amanda), Evan Harbuck (Estefania), John Harbuck (Christina), Hannah Harbuck, Kyle Harris (Rachel), Chase Harris, and Caleb Harris, and step granddaughter Heather Moser (Ryan); as well as 8 great grandchildren.
A celebration of Carol’s life will be held at the Lowe Funeral Home in Burlington, North Carolina on Saturday May 13, 2023 at 3:00 pm in the chapel. A reception will follow immediately after the service. Casual dress is requested.
A private burial will be held at a later date, at the Glade Valley Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Glade Valley.
Carol suffered from advanced dementia the last several years of her life. The family would like to thank the staff at Mebane Ridge for the love, dedication and wonderful care they provided for her. They worked tirelessly to provide a loving and safe environment. We would also like to thank Community Home Care and Hospice for the special services they provided and the loving way they they cared for her. She was blessed and so were we to have such a wonderful extended “family”.
