Carmela Walker

Mrs. Carmela Muccio “Millie” Walker, age 89, departed this life to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, November 6, 2019 at the Hospice Home of Alamance-Caswell in Burlington.

Millie grew up in Boston, Massachusetts but spent most of her adult life in Burlington. For 71 years, she was the wife of James W. Walker, who survives. She was the mother of Kenneth J. Walker (Julie) of Mebane, NC and John P. Walker (Valicia) of Huntersville, NC.  Born on January 13, 1930, Millie was the daughter of the late Joseph and Anna Muccio of Watertown, MA. In addition to her parents, Millie was preceded in death by four sisters: Nancy Marino, Josephine Warner, Mary Cooper and

Elizabeth Walton. She is survived by two sisters, Rose Goad (John) of Claremore, OK and Lucy Mercurio of Watertown, MA. Millie is survived by a number of grandchildren: Stephen Walker (Rachel) of Leland, NC, Brad Walker (Elissa) of Wilmington, NC, John Walker (Jessica) of Hillsborough, NC, Megan Walker of Columbia, SC and Logan Walker of Charlotte, NC. Her great-grandchildren are Meredith and Charlotte Walker of Leland, Emelia and Elena Walker of Wilmington

and Finley Walker of Hillsborough. Millie is also survived by a number of special nieces and nephews and countless friends.

Even though Millie spent most of her adult life in North and South Carolina, she never lost her love for Boston and her Italian roots. She passed along that passion for New England to her sons as well as her grandchildren and was always excited to return to Boston to visit her extended family and friends.

At the age of 18, Millie became a junior hostess for the USO. As part of her duties, she was to

mingle with the sailors that were stationed in Boston, It was at one of these functions where she met a young sailor that had been in WWII and was now being re-trained in Radar School. Jim and Millie were great dancers and partnered for life after 6 months of courtship. After marriage, Jim carried Millie to Cowpens, SC to start a new life together. It was there that Millie met Jim’s parents and was

taught the ways of being “southern” but more importantly she learn about her Lord and Savior. That began her life’s journey as a follower of Jesus Christ and a life of faith in Him. Millie has served the Lord faithfully over the years in several area churches and most recently was a member of The Lamb’s Chapel.

Millie will be remembered for her love and loyalty to her family and many friends, for her wise and godly council, for her love of music, for her love of teaching and learning, for her joy of simple things, for her love of the beach, and for being a spiritual prayer warrior and most of all for being in love with her Lord.

The family especially would like to express appreciation to the many friends, caregivers and facilities that have provided Millie with so much love and concern during her long battle with dementia. They would also like to thank the Hospice Home of Alamance-Caswell for providing such a peaceful and dignified place to spend her final days.

A service to celebrate her life will be held at 2:00 pm, Saturday, November 9, 2019 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Alamance Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 1:45 pm on Saturday prior to the service at the funeral home.
