Burlington – Carlene Wolfe Shelton, 89, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 14, 2022 at the Hospice Home. She was born in Person County to the late William “Willie” James Wolfe and Martha Jane Brown Wolfe, and was a devoted and supportive wife of 68 years to retired chief of police Raymond “Ray” Fryar Shelton.
Carlene retired as the manager at Merle Norman, where she worked hand in hand with her daughter Wanda for 34 years. The growth of the business would not have been possible without Wanda’s mother by her side. Carlene loved her customers, she changed women’s lives by empowering them to look and feel their best. She touched so many with her sweet smile and tender heart. Carlene was a member of Burlington Christian Church, and loved spending time with her family and friends. Carlene especially enjoyed traveling with Ray and their group of friends over the years.
Survivors other than her cherished husband, Ray Shelton include her sons, Dr. Raymond Alan Shelton and Kenneth Neil Shelton and wife Mia Pizzagalli; a daughter, Wanda Karen Shelton and husband Christopher Brooks Testerman; grandchildren, Cathryn Shelton and fiancé Jonah Garnick, Madeleine Shelton and fiancé Jonah Melhado, and Melina Shelton; sisters, Erma Jones, Betty Roberts, Regina Bak, Jeanette Lunsford and Rebecca Rimmer; brothers, Darnell Wolfe and Jerry Wolfe; numerous nieces and nephews. Carlene was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Lonnie and Roger Wolfe.
The celebration of life service will be held at 2:00pm Sunday, March 20, 2022 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Phil Hardy. The family will receive friends immediately following the service and other times at the family home.
