Carleen Parks Shepherd, 93, formerly of Roger St., went home to be with the Lord on Saturday July 7, 2012 following a brief stay at UNC- Chapel Hill Hospital and then the Hospice Home of Alamance-Caswell. A native of Burlington, NC, she was born June 17, 1919 in Alamance County to the late Clarence Franklin and Carrie Crutchfield Parks and was the wife of the late John Cyrus Shepherd. She retired from the J. Spencer Love Center, formerly May Hosiery, and then began a second career as owner of Ann's ceramics at her residence, which lasted for thirty-five years. She was a dedicated member of the V.F.W. Women's Auxiliary. Carleen was a lifetime member of Davis St. UMC and also a member of the Builder's Sunday School Class. She was the heart of her family. Carleen loved to cook, and Sunday family dinners were a tradition. Survivors include her daughter Priscilla Joel Fulcher of Mebane, granddaughter Terri Curtis Lamm of Graham and great granddaughter Kaitlynn Lamm of Graham. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, her sisters, Nina Reid and Margaret Barham, and brother Carl Parks. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. In addition, she leaves loving nieces and nephews, as well as great nieces and nephews, all of whom knew her as "Aunt Nap." Carleen will be missed by many. The funeral will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday at Davis St. UMC by Rev. Ellen McCubbin. Interment will follow at Pine Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:15 1:30 PM Tuesday prior to the service at the church. Friends are also welcome to come to her daughter's home, 3811 Old Hillsborough Rd., Mebane. In lieu of flowers, the family asks memorials be made to either Davis Street UMC, 606 East Davis Street, Burlington 27215, or the Hospice Home of Alamance-Caswell, 918 Chapel Hill Road Burlington 27215. The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at UNC-Chapel Hill Hospital and the staff at the Hospice Home of Alamance-Caswell for their loving kindness shown to both Carleen and her family.
