Burlington, NC –
Sergeant First Class Carey DeVull Banks, Sr. (“Scrap”), 58, passed away peacefully, surrounded by love, at his home in Burlington, NC on Tuesday, June 16, 2020 after a brief illness.
A 1980 graduate of Roosevelt H.S. in Gary, IN, Carey went on to serve honorably in the US Army for, in his words, “22 years, 10 months, and 21 days.” After retiring from the Army, Carey spent another 13 years “in boots”, working for BP America Oil Refinery in Whiting, IN. Words will NEVER convey how much Carey positively impacted the lives of everyone he met.
Left to cherish many loving memories, and mourn the “gone too soon” passing of this extraordinary man: his childhood sweetheart and loving wife, Michelle L. Haymon Banks; children, Carey Jr., Cheri Banks, and Keanna Banks; grandchildren, Taylor Rae Banks, Alexander Keon Banks, London Renae Banks, and Andre Juan Dean, Jr. (“AJ”); “Bonus” sons, Michael (Danista) and Adam Short; Brothers, James (Linda), Adrian (Nellar), Terry (Alexcia); Sisters, Connie Berry, Tracy Banks, and Rev. Camille Banks; former wife Cheryl Banks; plus far too many friends, relatives, and well-wishers to list by name. Carey was preceded in death by his parents Columbus Leroy Banks and Doris Stine (Wallace) Banks; sisters Carol Davis, Charlotte Parks, and Doris “Baby” Stokes; and brother Donald.
Carey's "Independence Day" Memorial Celebration will be open-air, riverside, at 324 Eno Mountain Road (Allison St.), 2:00 p.m., Saturday, July 4th, in Hillsborough, NC.
