Bruce Vaughn

Bruce Elton Vaughn, 88, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, April 25, 2013 at the Hospice Home. A native of Alamance County, he was the son of the late Jess and Josephine Stinson Vaughn and the husband of 67 years to Fern Rebecca Wood Vaughn of the home. Bruce was a longtime member of Glen Raven Baptist Church where he served as deacon, Sunday School Superintendent and sang in the choir. Bruce worked 26 years for Associated Transport where he was a manager in the parts department. During his years at Associated Transport, he was a member of the International Association of Machinists, Local Chapter #1617 and was elected by union members to serve as their contract negotiator. Bruce served in the U.S. Navy during World War II on board a submarine, the USS Cavalla. Bruce is survived by his wife of the home; daughters, Pam Hatcher and husband Lowell of Elon and Sandra Curtis and husband, Dale of Nags Head, NC; grandchildren, Michelle Bridges and husband, Steve, Todd Curtis and wife, Robin, Jennifer Curtis and Shane Hatcher; great grandchildren, Steven and Alexis Hatcher, Michael, Katy, Abby and John Bridges, Adam Curtis and Emily and Andrew Morgan and a brother, J.C. Vaughn. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Marl Vaughn and sisters, Florene Butcher, Hazel Hodge, Lois Kerley and Gladys Barbee. The funeral service will be held at 2:00pm, Monday, April 29, 2013 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Pastor Bobby Fann with the burial to follow at Alamance Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 3-5pm on Sunday at Lowe Funeral Home and other times at the home. The family would like to offer special thanks to Beverly Paschal Collins for her many years of friendship and support, all past and current home caregivers and to the special nurses of ARMC and Hospice Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Alamance-Caswell, 914 Chapel Hill Rd., Burlington, NC 27215 or to Glen Raven Baptist Church, 335 Glen Raven Rd., Burlington, NC 27217.
