Bruce Butler Jackson, age 85, formerly of Woodland Avenue went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, October 11, 2008 at Clapps Nursing Center. He was a native Sampson County and the husband of the late Dorothy "Dot" Elaine Page Jackson. Bruce retired from Turner Transfer Company after 52 years as a general foreman and also served as an electrician during WWII in the naval shipyards at Norfolk, VA and Jacksonville, FL. He was a member of Grove Park Baptist Church and the Reliable Sunday School Class. Bruce was a member of Woodmen of the World Camp 26 in Greensboro, the Alamance Wildlife Club, the Burlington Shrine Club and was a 3rd degree Mason with the Bula Masonic Lodge #409 AF & AM in Burlington. Bruce was a kind, compassionate and caring man who truly enjoyed serving his fellow man and could often be found volunteering his time to help those in need within his family, his church and the surrounding community. Survivors include his son, Gary L. Jackson of Dunn; daughter and son-in-law, Bettie J. and Larry Sliauter of Alpharetta, Georgia; grandchildren Elizabeth A. Martin of Greensboro, Jennifer E. Jackson of Greenville and Page A. Gamel and Will Jackson Gamel both of Alpharetta, Georgia; sisters, Trello J. Sills and Magdalene J. West both of Dunn; brothers, Robert and Jack Jackson, both of Greensboro and Jimmie Jackson of Dunn. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, Ernie and Pearl Jane Daniel Jackson; sister, Ellen Gray Burton and brothers, Quinton, George and E. B. Jackson. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, October 14, 2008 at Grove Park Baptist Church by Dr. Gene Hunsinger and Rev. Bill Vickrey. Interment will follow at Alamance Memorial Park with Masonic Graveside Rites. Members of the Reliable Sunday School Class are asked to serve as honorary pallbearers at the service. The family will receive friends from 6-8 Monday evening at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory and other times at his residence.
