Brodie Coolidge Simmons

September 14, 1925 — June 11, 2024

Elon

Elon – Brodie Coolidge Simmons was born on September 14,1925 in Caswell County, North Carolina where he resided his entire life other than the first year of married life when he and Irene rented in the Lakeview community while they built their home. Like his father before him, he was a tiller of the soil.  He spent his lifetime farming the land he was raised on alongside his brothers and sisters. He grew up in a large and loving family in the midst of the Great Depression and came of age in the midst of World War II.  He married Annie Irene Reagan in 1950 and together they shared over seventy years of marriage. He knew hard work well and he never shrank away from it nor did he allow anyone else to.  He was quick witted, fun loving, and playful even as he grew to be an old man. He never lost the wonder of watching the seasons change or the joy and satisfaction of seeing living things grow.  He gave freely to those less fortunate and was a leader in his family.  He was employed as a fixer at Dura Tread Hosiery for 42 years. He was a proud member of the Southern Caswell Ruritan for over 40 years and served as president, vice president, secretary and zone governor and he was always very proud of his perfect attendance of every meeting for all of those years. Brodie attended Concord Christian Church, his entire adult life, and served faithfully there. He loved his family deeply and was very proud of his daughter and son-in-law, granddaughters and their husbands and great grandchildren.

He is survived by his daughter, Lugene Fuquay and husband, Glenn; grandchildren, Stacie Brantley and husband, Gary, Kimberly Pickens and husband, James; great grandchildren, Faith Brantley, Quinn Brantley, Grant Brantley, Carson Pickens and Miles Pickens; sisters, Lottie Simmons Tate and Mona Simmons Busick and many cherished nieces, nephews and friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Berry Washington and Bertha Minor Simmons; his wife, Irene Reagan Simmons of 70 years; brothers, William, Robert, Ervin and James “Elb” Simmons and his sisters, Hattie Simmons Smith, Edna Simmons Faison and Verdie Simmons Rice.

The funeral will be held 2:00 PM Sunday, June 16, 2024 at Concord Christian Church by Rev. Steve Hinton.   Interment will follow in the church cemetery.  Mr. Simmons will lie in state prior to the service at the church. The family will receive friends following the service in the church fellowship hall and other times at the home of his granddaughter, Stacie Brantley.

Memorials may be made to Southern Caswell Ruritan c/0 George Aldridge, 3390 Wagon Wheel Road, Reidsville, NC 27320.
