Broddie Millard Whitfield, 79, of Burlington passed away on Sunday, October 21, 2012 at the Hospice Home after a brief illness. He was born in Person County to the late Charles Dewey and Irene Tatum Whitfield and was married for 57 years to Shirley Aldridge Whitfield, who survives. He retired from AT&T and was a member of McCray Primitive Baptist Church where he also had served as a deacon. Broddie was a U.S. Army veteran. He is survived by his wife of the home; daughter, Robin Whitfield Mangum of Greensboro; son, Broddie "Chad" Michelle Whitfield of Burlington; one granddaughter, Ashtyn Michelle Whitfield and a sister, Edith Chance of Lynchburg, VA. He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Colene W. Yarbrough and Dorothy Lee Gainous. The funeral service will be held 2:00 PM Tuesday at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Elder Ray King and Elder Harold Pittman with interment to follow in Bush Arbor Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:30-8:00 PM Monday evening at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory and other times at the home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care Center of Alamance-Caswell, 914 Chapel Hill Rd., Burlington, NC 27215.
