Brenda Saul Thompson was called home to her eternal resting place with her Lord Jesus on Monday morning, April 17, 2023. She was born January 25, 1941 to the late Willie Lee and Azilee Sutton Saul. Brenda was married to and adored her husband of 54 years the late Roger Galen Thompson who passed away in 2014. She was such a precious woman of God and beloved member of her community serving those around her in so many ways. Brenda was a lifelong member of Bethlehem Christian Church and retired from Alamance County Governmental Offices in 2002.
Survivors include her children: son, Craig Thompson and wife, Sharon; and daughters, Shelia Denton and husband, Jimmy; and Kim Williams and husband, Keith. Brenda was so loved and was so proud of her grandchildren: Lyndsey Lowe and husband, Jeff; Tyler Thompson and wife, Carin; Kaleigh Denton Brown and husband, Staley; Kassie Denton Waller and husband, Trent; Kaleb Denton and wife, McKayla; Kaison Denton and wife, Jessica; Kameron and Konner Williams. She also enjoyed her great-grandchildren: Lucy, Judah, Ebbie, and Samson Lowe; Selah, Maranatha, Josiah, and Hosanna Thompson; Steele and Sky Waller; Hudson and Hallie Brown; and Krue Denton. Other survivors include her siblings: Kathy Garrison and husband, John; Leon Saul and wife, Betty; and aunts, Johnnie Faye Saul and Virginia Greene and husband, Phil. And many precious nieces, nephews, and cousins. She is also survived by her friend, Sam Austin, who held a special place in her heart and she enjoyed many special times with him. Sam brought her great companionship and much joy the last six years. She was preceded in death by her sister, Sandra Saul Wrenn.
During Brenda’s high school days, she was a standout basketball player at A-O High School and was City-County player of the year her junior and senior years. Through her involvement in athletics, she cultivated many relationships in the community which she maintained for a lifetime. Brenda was a coach and taxi driver for youth practices and games. She felt honored to be called “second mom” by so many people whose lives she impacted. Her life was a true example of how Jesus calls us to love and serve others. She spent her days looking for ways to help others, maybe a phone call or visit to check on someone or baking delicious bread to share with her family and friends. Her heart for others displayed a compassion so genuine and love so deep that it was undeniably Jesus living through her. Countless times, she put the needs of others before herself and took great joy in knowing and rejoicing in their happiness. Our mom knew the key to contentment did not mean having the best of everything, but making the best of everything you have.
Her life richly blessed and touched so many people and she will be deeply and greatly missed, but because she trusted in Jesus, we have this hope: John 11:25, “Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection, and the life. Whoever believes in Me will LIVE, even though they die.”
A celebration of her life will be held on Thursday, April 20, 2023 at Bethlehem Christian Church with the family receiving friends from 11:30 am-1:30 pm and funeral beginning at 2:00 pm and graveside committal to immediately follow in the Bethlehem cemetery. Afterwards, there will be a time to visit with the family in the fellowship hall where refreshments will be served. At other times, the family will receive friends at the home.
Memorials may be made to: International Mission Board, 3806 Monument Avenue, Richmond, VA 23230 (imb.org)
