Brenda Sockwell

Brenda Lee Turney Sockwell, 75, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, January 14, 2022 at Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro. She was a native of Alamance County and the daughter of the late Lee William and Lucy Catherine Allen Turney and the wife for 50 years to Charles Robert Sockwell, who still survives.

Brenda was very involved in church life as a choir member, Sunday School teacher and on various committees in Frieden’s Lutheran Church and the church council at Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church.  While her sons were in school, she was the president of the PTA.  She was a faithful wife, the center of her family, and excited grandmother.  Her maternal instinct was stronger than most, not only for her family, but anyone who needed her love.  Brenda can be described as a selfless person that cared for anyone that came into contact with her.  She was involved in the Fire Station 28 Auxiliary and the Curves Ladies workout group. She was known as always having a huge smile on her face no matter the situation. In retirement, she enjoyed taking care of her granddaughter, Adeline, and her grand dog, Silas. Her favorite pastime was working in her flowers. She will be missed greatly by her family and community.

Brenda is survived by her husband of the home; two sons, Bryant Sockwell and wife, Kristin and Robbie Sockwell; granddaughter, Adeline Sockwell; sister, Laquita Keever; brothers, Johnny and Gene Turney; and one nephew, Jamie Keever, and several nieces, Lisa Holler, Angie Stump, Melissa Zickefoose, Brittany Turney and Jessica Turney.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Henry Ray Turney.

The Celebration of Life Service will be postponed to a later date due to inclement weather.
