Boyd G. Malcolm, 79, formerly of Athens, GA, passed away Wednesday, July 20, 2016 at Alamance Health Care.
A native of Neese, GA, he was the son of the late Billups Phinizy and Annie Mae Brown Malcolm and was husband of the late Hilda Edwards Malcolm.
Boyd was a lifelong resident of Athens, GA where he was the superintendent of the Athens Water Department for 37½ years. Following his retirement he became a consultant with Armentrout and Roebuck for 10 years. As his health declined, he moved to Burlington, NC to be near his family. He was a member of Forest Heights Baptist Church and was a well known figure in the Athens community. He was a wonderful father and grandfather.
Survivors include his son, Darrell E. Malcolm and wife Dedra of Burlington; daughter, Carol Malcolm of Athens; grandchildren, Jennifer Biddle and husband Jonathan of Raeford, NC, Christopher Malcolm and wife Kristi of Greensboro and Lindsey Miller and husband Jacob of Mebane; great grandchildren, Levi, Spencer and Kerrigan Biddle, Abigail, Laura and Caleb Malcolm and Emma Miller; sister in law, Tricia Malcolm and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and brother, Jerome Malcolm.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm Sunday, July 24, 2016 in the Bernstein Funeral Home Chapel in Athens by Dr. C. Mike Purdy, pastor. Interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park in Athens. The family will receive friends from 1:00 -1:50pm, prior to the service, at Bernstein Funeral Home.
