Bobby Miles Brantley, 75, of Terrywood Road died at the Hospice Home of Alamance County on Saturday, April 11, 2009 after five weeks of declining health due to complications from lung disease. Bobby was born November 29, 1933 in Graham, NC to the late Myrtle Lillian Sawyer and Joseph Bryan Brantley, Sr. He was predeceased by his parents and his brother, Joseph Bryan "J. B." Brantley, Jr. He is survived by his daughter Betty Ann Griffin and husband, Sandy, of Burlington; one granddaughter, Meredith Griffin; half brother, Alan Brantley, of Graham; and special friend, Katherine Bowes, and her family of Haw River. Bob was in the first graduating class of Williams High School in 1952 and attended Elon College. He served in the US Army in the 508th Engineer Company France and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and Army Occupation Medal Germany. He was a friend to many and was involved in numerous organizations and civic clubs in North Carolina and Florida including the Burlington Jaycees, Lions Club, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the American Legion. He also served as a volunteer for Disabled American Veterans. Bob was a golf professional PGA and was head professional and teaching pro at Belvedere Plantation Country Club NC. During his lifetime, he was also an accomplished sportsman in bowling, fishing, football and softball. He was an avid gardener and held a Master Gardener designation. A celebration of his life and memorial service will be held at 4:00 PM on Wednesday, April 15, 2009 at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory. Visitation with family and friends will follow the service at Lowe Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice & Palliative Care Center of Alamance-Caswell, 918 Chapel Hill Road, Burlington, NC 27215 or Open Bible Baptist Church, 610 Beaumont Ave., Burlington, NC 27215.
