Blain Pinkston, 57, of Burlington, died at The Hospice Home Wednesday, July 20, from lungcancer. His sisters, Pam Carlson and Julie Watkins; his special friend and helper, Julie Lee; and his boss of 20 years, Peggy Young, were with him through his journey.
Blain was born to L. Julius and Erma Boswell Pinkston in Charlotte, NC July 26, 1958. He went to school in Charlotte and received an Associates degree from Greenville Technical College. Blain's life long love was cars. He worked as an auto mechanic, the last 20 years for Cox Toyota, and regularly ended the workday with the gang at Bill's Sports Bar where he was knownas Chuck. He enjoyed NASCAR including the friends, camping, and beer coolers that went along with it. Sparky and the race family were very special friends to "Pinky" for 40 years. Blain also spent years riding motorcycles and collecting and running model trains.
Blain was proceeded in death by his parents. He is survived by his sisters, Pam Carlson (Dirk) of Boise, ID and Julie Watkins of Lake Wiley, SC; nieces and nephews Mallory, Thomas, and Meredith Carlson and Arnie and Cody Watkins; and his cat, Copper.
A graveside service will be held Saturday July 23, 11am by Rev. Dan Ficklin and Rev. James Rosser at Union Ridge Church located at 115 Altamahaw-Union Ridge Road, Burlington, 27217, where he will be laid to rest near his parents. A cookout to celebrate Blain will follow at his home. The body will be available for viewing for 1-6pm on Friday at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory.
