Birdie Wagoner Crutchfield Scott, 83, of Laurel Hill Dr. passed away Sunday, November 6, 2005 at Twin Lakes Center following two years of failing health. She was the wife of the late Allie C. Scott and the late G.C. Crutchfield, Jr. and the daughter of the late William Currie and Jesse Pearl Horner Wagoner. Birdie was a native of Orange County and a retired elementary school teacher where she had taught at E.M. Holt and Elon Elementary. She was a member of Grove Park Baptist Church, a member of the Alamance / Burlington Retired School Personnel, a former member; of the National Educators Association, N.C. Educators Association, the Tan and Toil Garden Club, Altrusa Club, the Women of the Moose, Grove Park Baptist Church Widows Support group, the Alamance County Widows Support Group and the founding Board of Directors, the Senior Advantage Group the A.B.W.A. and had received the honor of being named the Teacher of the Year for the 1976-1977 school year for the Alamance County Schools.. Surviviors include her daughter Gail Crutchfield of Burlington, a son David Crutchfield and his wife Roxanna of Level Cross, a grandson Ryan Crutchfield, step grandchildren Stepheni Heggedal and H.R. Heggedal, brothers George Wagoner of Cedar Grove and Russell Wagoner and his wife Ann of Hurdle Mills. She was preceded in death by her sisters; Cora Lee Painter, Louise Pope and Annie Watkins. The funeral will be held at 10:00 AM Tuesday at Grove Park Baptist Church by Dr. Gene Hunsinger and Mr. Bill Vickrey. Interment will follow in Walnut Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery in Hurdle Mills, NC. The family will receive friends 5-7 PM Monday at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc. and at other times at the daughters home 203 Markham St., Burlington.
