Billy Waldo Watkins, age 49, of 4935 Mebane Rogers Rd., died Wednesday, September 23, 2009, at his home after several months of failing health. He was born in Wake County, and was married to Susan Massey Watkins, who survives, of the home and was the son of Harley Wade Watkins and Betty Hicks Watkins, who both survive, of Burlington. Other survivors include two daughters, Nicki Watkins of Burlington and Tiffany Garrison and her husband, Walter, of Gibsonville; a son, Billy W. Watkins, Jr., of the home; a step daughter, Stephanie Poole, of Hillsborough; a sister, Marsha Hall, and her husband, Rodney, of Concord, NC; a brother, Tim Watkins, and his wife, Valarie, of Graham; his grandmother, Miriam Watkins, of Raleigh, NC; and several nieces and nephews. Billy graduated from Western Alamance High School and attended Elon University. He was the co-owner and President of Affordable Glass Inc. He also was affiliated with Wings To Recovery and was of the Baptist faith. A "Most Courageous Award" was established in Billy's honor in 2008 due to Billy's involvement with the athletic department of Eastern Alamance High School. The funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 am Saturday, September 26, 2009, at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Walter Jones, Rev. Darrell Massey and Rev. Ron Harris. Interment will follow at Alamance Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-8 Friday evening and other times at the residence. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22718, Oklahoma City, OK 73123-1718.
