WHITSETT, NC- Billy Jack Sparks, 80, of 3908 Onnie Rd., died Saturday, March 4, 2006 at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. A native of Titus County, TX, he was the son of the late Johnnie Pemberton Sparks and the late Lydia Martin Sparks. He was a combat veteran of the U.S Navy, serving in WWII in the Pacific Theatre. After his Navy service, he served in the U.S Coast Guard. He retired from N.A.S.A. after many years of service at the Johnson Space Center in Houston, TX and was a lifetime member of the Teamsters, Local Union No. 1111. of Houston, TX. Mr. Sparks is survived by a daughter, Ms. Susan Sparks Parker of Whittsett; a son, Steven Fred Sparks and his wife, Yvonne, of San Antonio, TX; two grandsons, Russell Parker and Curtis Parker; a brother, Fred Sparks of Clinton, LA; and several nieces and nephews.
