Bill Morton was taken into the arms of Jesus on Thursday morning, September 19th at Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro. He was the son of the late Jesse Holt and Annie Michael Morton and husband of Saundra Ward Morton who survives.
Bill and Saundra were married for over 60 years. He was a member of Holly Hill Baptist Church where he received the award of Deacon Emeritus.
Bill was an Air Force veteran of the Korean Conflict serving in Germany and Turkey. He worked for NC National Bank for 30 years and served as Vice President. Also he was manager of the Consumer Credit Control Office.
Survivors include his wife, Saundra Morton of the home, daughter, Gay Morton Henshaw of Burlington, sons, Boyce Morton and wife Teresa of Burlington, David Morton and wife Paula of Elon; grandchildren, Jessica Henshaw, Justin Henshaw, Heather Morton, John Michael Morton and Brandon Morton, sister, JoAnne Gardenour and husband Lee of Florida, and sister-in-law, Glenda Morton of Durham; and his caregiver/nurse, Merial Williamson-Roberson. Bill is also survived by his many friends whom he loved and cherished. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers; Bobby Holt Morton and James Keith Morton.
Bill was active in his children's sports programs. He coached their teams in basketball and baseball as well as coaching the kids from the Elon Orphanage. Bill was elected President of the Elon Sports Club.
He was also active in sports himself. He played fast pitch softball and basketball. Bill was very active in golf, having the nickhame "One Putt". He was the champion ping pong player for Alamance County for 5 years in single and doubles division. He also won the horseshoe tournament for his age group and was on bowling teams in which he won many awards. Bill served as Chief of the YMCA Indian Guides, a father-son activity.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30am Monday, September 24, 2018 at Holly Hill Baptist Church with Dr. Eugene Hunsinger officiating. Mr. Morton will remain at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory until taken to the church where the family will receive friends from 10:00am until 11:15am prior to the service. Interment will follow in Alamance Memorial Park.
