Mr. Billy J. "Mr. Bill" Hawkins, age 65, 0f 608 Indian Valley Dr., died March 27, 2011 at Duke University Medical Center after one week of critical illness. A native of Alamance County, he was the son of the late Oscar Lee Hawkins and the late Annie Bell Gates Hawkins and was married for over 42 years to Mrs. Sandra S. Hawkins, who survives. Billy was a U.S Army veteran and served in the Vietnam War. He retired from Burlington Industries Transportation Division after many years of service and later was a driver for Royal Tours. Mr. Hawkins is survived by his wife of the home; a son, Rusty Shawn Hawkins and his wife, Melinda, of Burlington; two grandsons, Ethan Shawn Hawkins and Caleb Seth Hawkins; two brothers, Donald Hawkins and his wife, Betty, of Burlington and Jimmy Hawkins and his wife, Evelyn, of Durham; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Travis S. Hawkins. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the paramedics of Faucette Fire Department, the Emergency Room Staff at Alamance Regional Medical Center, the Life Flight technicians and medical staff of the 7200 Cardiac Care Ward at Duke University Medical Center for there exceptional expertise and care of Mr. Hawkins. The family will receive friends from 6-8 Monday evening at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory and other times at the residence.
