Billy David Crane, 81, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, April 9, 2023 at Carolina Medical Center in Charlotte following a brief illness. A native of Alamance County, he was born September 5, 1941 to the late John David and Grace Virginia Michael Crane and was the husband of nearly 62 years to Melba Kaye Hensley Crane of the home.
Billy served in the US Navy and attended First Baptist Church of Indian Trail in Charlotte. He enjoyed fishing and was an avid NASCAR fan. He also enjoyed trips to Holden Beach and spending time with his family.
Survivors include his wife, Melba; sons, David Crane and wife Joelle, Aric Crane and wife Heather; grandchildren, Megan Crane Whitman and husband Brad, Adam David Crane; great granddaughter, Adley Kaye Whitman and sisters, Sue Menefee and husband Bobby and Margie Adams. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Wayne Crane and a sister, Linda Hilton.
A service to celebrate Billy’s life will be held at 2:00pm on Friday, April 14, 2023 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Reid Dickens with the entombment to follow at Alamance Memorial Park Mausoleum. The family will receive friends from 12:30 – 1:45 prior to the service at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
