Billy Barker

Billy Barker, 83, of 6721 Pagetown Rd., was called home to be with the Lord, Sunday at the Hospice Home following a short illness. He was married to Dorothy Mae Frye Barker for 58 years. Billy was born July 6, 1924 in Rockingham County, NC to the late Will P. and Ella Martin Barker. He retired from Contexx Industries and was a member of Union Ridge Church where he had sung in the choir and was a member of the Ella Flemings Sunday School Class. He also served as Scout Master in the Boy Scouts of America. He was known to always have a warm greeting and smile on his face. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend who will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Survivors include his wife of the home, sons; Gary Barker and his wife Linda of Burlington, Larry Barker and his wife Kay of Winston Salem, grandchildren; Elaine Barker, Thomas Barker, Alan Barker, Anna Katherine Barker, Will Barker and a sister Hazel Apple of Burlington. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Gilmer Barker. The funeral service will be held 2:00 PM Tuesday, at Union Ridge Church by Rev. Dan Ficklin. Interment will follow in Stony Creek Presbyterian Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6-8PM Monday at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc. and at other times at the residence.
