Billie Smith

Billie Sue Simpson Smith, 78 of Burlington was called to Heaven by her Lord on Wednesday, October 6, 2010. Billie Sue or "Precious Caldonia" was the adoring wife of 56 years to Rev. Bennie D. Smith of Staley Memorial Baptist Church where she was a member and very active for years in the nursery helping with Christmas plays, decorating the church for Christmas and working with the young people of the church. Billie Sue served this world as a loving wife, daughter, sister, sister-in-law and precious aunt. She loved to shop for clothes and shoes, enjoyed decorating her house, spending time with her family at home and on vacations, having her "Friday night date" with "her husband" and going to the beach and spending quality time with him there. She was a loving person, a true friend and someone to look up to. Her graceful, fun, silly, kind, generous, thoughtful and compassionate spirit have greatly impacted all who knew her. She leaves behind a family who adored her and will miss her greatly. Our lives will never be the same without her! She was born in Alamance County on May 22, 1932 to the late Swannie Thomas Simpson and Robert Harris Simpson. She was preceded in death by her brother, the late Robert O. Simpson, Sr. She is survived by her husband of the home, sister, Dolly Simpson Buckner; sisters-in-law, Betsy Cotton Wood and Bertha Simpson; brother-in-law, Bo Tonya Smith; nieces and nephews, Jeff Wood, Wendy Cox, Preston Smith, Teresa Crawford, Karon Parker, Sharon Thompson, and Robbie Simpson; and nieces and nephews whom she and Uncle Bennie lovingly called their "special children", Sheena Lambert, Robin Moore, Suzan Bell, Rodney Murray, and Jamey Murray. We Love You! A funeral service to celebrate her life will be held on Sunday, October 10, 2010 at 3:30 p.m. at Staley Memorial Baptist Church by Evangelist Rodney Murray, Dr. Wade Cox, and Pastor Rodney Staley with burial to follow at Alamance Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Sunday afternoon 1:30-3:30 p.m. prior to the service at the church and other times at the home. Memorials may be made to Staley Memorial Baptist Church at 1446 N. Graham-Hopedale Rd. Burlington, NC 27217
