Mrs. Betty Smith Maffeo, age 86, of Gibsonville, passed away on Thursday, December 3, 2020 at Alamance Regional Medical Center.
A native of Alamance County, she was the daughter of the late James A. Smith and the late Nannie Lou Compton Smith and was married for over 59 years to Robert David “Bob” Maffeo, who survives. She retired from Elon University after 17 years of service and was a longtime member of Gibsonville Baptist Church, where she was a former Sunday School Teacher and served on the Hospitality Committee and with the youth department.
Mrs. Maffeo is survived by her husband of the home; two sons, Perry Wayne Maffeo and Michael David Maffeo and wife, Marianna; four grandchildren, Graham R. Maffeo, Joshua D. Maffeo, Ashleigh N. Maffeo and Lauren E. Maffeo; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; six sisters, Rena Loy, Koban Morene, Sudie Stainback, Katy Haymore, Annie James and Janie Couch; and two brothers, Bill Smith and Frank Smith.
The funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday, December 6, 2020 At Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. J.D. Weed. Interment will follow at Gibsonville City Cemetery. Mrs. Maffeo will be available for public viewing from 12:00 - 1:45 PM Sunday prior to the service.
