Betty Jean "Cookie" Cook Hyatt

June 2, 1936 — January 11, 2025

Burlington

Betty Jean Cook Hyatt went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, January 11, 2025 at ARMC surrounded by her family. She was born on June 2, 1936 to loving parents, William and Bertha. After Bertha passed, William was no longer able to care for the children so they were put into the care of The Elon Home for Children. During this time, William would still come and visit his kids and Betty made some lifelong friendships.

She met Max A Hyatt and were high school sweethearts. After a lovely courtship they Wed on June 30, 1962 and spent 62 wonderful years as husband and wife, building a lifetime of memories. This is where Cookie would get her nickname.

She was a Cook after all and that was a pet name Max gave her and it stuck. Anyone who knew her, knew her as Cookie! Cookie worked hard and played hard. She played basketball, was on a bowling team and even did some modeling. She worked and retired from Lucent after many years of service.

Cookie was a wonderful mother to Max Todd (Keela) Hyatt and could not have been a more proud mother. She was a wonderful wife, mother. grandmother, sister, aunt and mother-in-law in the world. She is survived by her husband, son, daughter-in-law and granddaughter, Brea Elina McIver. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, James Herbert Cook, Sr. and William J. Cook; sisters, Marjorie C. Clemmons and Helen Wimbish.

She was always up for some fun and adventure especially with her friend group affectionally known as the retreads. The retreads would go on trips, lunch dates and Friday hot dog nights and many more.

She was a faithful child of God and attended Emmanuel Methodist Church where she and Max would attend and support their church every chance they had.

A graveside service to celebrate her life will be held on Monday, January 20, 2025 at 11:00AM at Alamance Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel by Pastor Josh Abraham.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be to Emmanuel United Methodist Church, 2331 Lavista Drive, Burlington, NC 27215.
