Betty Lou Roach "Tootie" Hawkins, 80, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 10, 2018 at the Hospice Home surrounded by her family. She was born in Alamance County on September 9, 1937 to the late Stanford and Esther Roach and was the wife of nearly 60 years to William "Bill" Arnold Hawkins of the home.
Betty was a lifelong member of Glen Hope Baptist Church where she sang in the choir and served in many capacities. She had a love for animals and was a great cook. She was best known for her "Tootie cookies". Betty enjoyed life as she loved to laugh and cry. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Survivors include her husband, Bill; son, William Rodney Hawkins and wife Tiffany; granddaughters, Abby, Delaney, Vivian and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Pamela Sue; sisters, Naomi Pike, Vivian Angel, Peggy Overman; brothers, Luther "Boyd" Roach, Linwood Roach and William "Willie" Roach.
A service to celebrate her life will be held at 4:00pm on Tuesday, March 13, 2018 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Clarence Toney with the burial to follow at Pine Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5-7pm on Monday at the funeral home and other times at the son, Rodney's home in Burlington.
