Betty Allred

Betty Sue Drake Summers Allred passed away peacefully On November 5, 2013 surrounded by her loving family. Betty Sue was born in Coweta, GA on December 1, 1926 as the second child of Henry and Evelyn Drake. She and her 4 siblings formed a lively bunch as they grew up in Burlington, NC. As a teenager, Betty Sue and her sisters Doris and Frances sang in beautiful 3-part harmony at many events. She adored her little brother Grady and youngest sister, Patsy. She graduated from Burlington High School in 1943 and soon married 'JW' Summers. They had 3 children: Betty Jo, Kay, and Jeffery. After JW passed away, Betty retired from 25 years of work at Western Electric to care for her family. Betty Sue devoted her retirement years to caring for the special needs of Betty Jo and Jeffery and assisting Kay with the special needs of Kristi and Chad. They traveled together and enjoyed many activities, including Special Olympics, Disney World, school events, and beach trips. In quiet moments, Betty enjoyed oil painting, flower arranging, ceramics, and crafting. She developed an extensive doll collection and a lovely Christmas village that delighted the children. Although she didn't like chocolate, Betty always made the 'best' chocolate pies and lots of tasty treats for every family event! We will all miss Betty Sue.a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. May she rest in Peace! **************************************************** Burlington Betty Drake Summers Allred, 86, passed away Tuesday, November 5, 2013 at the Hospice Home.
