Betty Chappell

Burlington, NC Betty Sykes Chappell, age 85 went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, March 26, 2014 at the Homeplace. She was a native of Alamance County and the wife of the late James Claiborne Chappell who died in 2009. Betty was a former employee of Sykes Supply and she retired from Blue Ridge Hardware. She was a member of Davis Street United Methodist Church. Betty was a graduate of Burlington High School and attended Elon College . She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Survivors include her daughters, Linda Mitchell and Janice Whitesell both of Burlington, Mary Ann Chappell Lynch and her husband, Jimmy of Graham; grandson, Warren Martin and his wife, Janie of Burlington; great grandchildren, Abbey, Kinsey and Taylor Martin; brother, Lawrence Sykes and his wife, Ronny of Burlington. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, Leroy Page Sykes and Reggie Moran Sykes. A service to celebrate her life will be held on Saturday, March 29, 2014 at 4:00 pm at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Ellen McCubbin and Rev. Ben Bishop. The entombment will follow at Alamance Memorial Park Mausoleum. The family will receive friends from 2:45-3:45 pm prior to the service at the funeral home.
