Bernice Pruitt

Burlington-Bernice Hillery Pruitt, 80 went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, December 5, 2017. She was a native of Alamance County and the daughter of the late Noel Thomas and Sallie Hillery Cole Pruitt.
Bernice retired from the North Carolina Secretary of State's office. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Graham. Before going to DC she worked for radio station WBBB. She spent 17 years working on the Hill in Washington, DC for two different Congressman. Bernice was also the President for the NC Democratic delegation to DC for many years. Bernice enjoyed politics and living in Washington, DC during President John F. Kennedy's presidency.
Survivors include her sister, Janice Compton and husband, Steve of Urbanna, Virginia; brothers, Glenn Pruitt and wife, Joyce of Sherrills Ford, NC and Mark Pruitt of Burlington; nephews, Steven Thomas Compton and Matthew Joseph Compton; niece, Susan Balckwell and great nieces, India Blackwell, Hailey Compton and Amanda Compton.
A service to celebrate her life will be held at a later date. Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory are in charge of the arrangements.
