Bernard Tichy

Mr. Bernard William "Barney" Tichy, age 84, of Cornerstone Dr., passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, May 7, 2014. Born in Flushing, NY, he was the son of the late William Charles Tichy and the late Eileen Anderson Tichy, and was married for over 57 years to Mrs. Marilyn MacKenzie Tichy, who died in 2007. Mr. Tichy acquired a Masters degree from Harvard Business School and was a scientist with the Brookhaven National Laboratory. He later was employed as a program director with Grumman Aircraft, with over 26 years of service. After retiring from Grumman, he started his own company, Avionics Plastics Corporation, for which he served as the owner and operator. Mr. Tichy is survived by his four children, Christine Place and her husband, James, of Cortland, NY, Donald Tichy and his wife, Teri, of Burlington, William Tichy and his wife, Debra, of Portland, OR and Douglas Tichy and his wife, Debbie, of Burlington; twelve grandchildren and their spouses, Daniel Elizabeth Tichy, Dianna Seth Joslyn, Vanessa George Nelson, Heather Tichy, Garrett Jennie Tichy, Breianna John Murray, Christianna Grinter, Mara John Montana, Stephanie Collin Drolet, James Tichy, Abigail Place, and Michael Tichy; and eight great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; a sister, Elaine Hardin; and a brother, Edward Tichy. The family will receive friends from 5-7 PM Saturday, May 10, 2014 at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory and other times at his son, Don's, residence, 4459 Cornerstone Dr., Burlington.
