Berma Almanza Hanna Hudgins, 98, passed away on Monday, July 10, 2023.
She was born November 13, 1924 in Saltillo, TN to the late Gradon and Jewel Stanfill Hanna. She was raised on the Hanna Family Farm in the Five Forks Community near theTennessee River with her best friend, confidant and brother, James “Herman”Hanna.
Berma was truly “one of one”. She was a strong Christian woman who stood by her faith and worked hard to ensure that her family did the same. She was hardworking, humble, and intelligent but never missed an opportunity to cut a rug and crack a joke. She was an avid reader and a great friend; she loved working any kind of crossword puzzle and board games. Also, she was an avid traveler and would walk two blocks in front of everyone in the group even though she didn’t have a clue where they were going next. Berma worked at Cone Mills Mineola Plant in NC and later at H.I.S Garment Factory in TN until she was 74 when the factory closed. She loved her children and never missed an opportunity to help teach them – she also never missed an opportunity to give them a hard time and let them know her mind. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy – a love that stretched through generations teaching each one to cook from scratch or quilt and crochet. Her family has been honored to have known her, learn from her, celebrate her, and last but not least – love her for nearly 99 years.
Berma married the late Marvin S. Hudgins in 1944. The two shared a life full of love, laughter, and adventure for nearly 40 years. Together again, they are survived by their family which now stretches 5 generations. Her children; Donna Carol Randolph, Martha “Marty” Joyce Ursery and Joseph “Joey” G. Hudgins, Sr. and wife, Donna. Her grandchildren include Kimberly “Dee” Noah, Thomas “Rusty” Randolph Jr. (Tina), Carla Perez (Juan), Desiree Hudgins (Dylan), Joseph “Joe” G. Hudgins Jr. Great-grandchildren include Gayla Babiak (Michael), Dustin (Angelina) Sutton, Christopher Randolph, Robert “Will” Ursery, Lilly Flores and Penelope Podany; as well as great great grandchildren, Daniel, Noah, Henry and Emma.
She will be greeted warmly in Heaven by her late husband, Marvin, her granddaughter, Terresa “Terri” Scarpa (David), great grandson, Billy Wayne Shropshire III, her brother, James “Herman” Hanna and aunts, Megi and Moe.
The family will receive friends from 2:30 – 3:45 PM Thursday, July 13, 2023, prior to the service at Lowe Funeral Home in Burlington, NC. A service to celebrate her life will directly follow at 4:00 PM at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel. The burial will follow at Gibsonville City Cemetery at 1200 Springwood Ave.
The family would like to express a special thanks to Rev. Kevin Barbour of Graham Full Gospel Tabernacle and Gibsonville Christian Church, along with Rev. William Baker for their gracious hospitality and support.
