Bennie Leon Simmons, 85, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, January 26, 2024 at the Hospice Home after a brief illness.
A native of Alamance County, he was son of the late Benjamin Lazarus Simmons and the late Willie Brown Simmons and was married for 45 years to the late Peggy Craddock Simmons, who passed in 2022. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and retired from Burlington Industries after 50 years of employment. Bennie was a longtime member of Altamahaw Baptist Church where he served as a trustee and he enjoyed farming.
Mr. Simmons is survived by his daughter, June Simmons Parrish (Jerry); step sons, D’Neil Hoke and Tonee Hoke (Tanya); grandchildren, Devin Burns and Ashlee Parrish; step grandchildren, Sunday Hoke, Brandon Hoke and Taylor Hoke; great grandchildren, Mattisen Parrish, Grayson Burns and Killian Burns; and several nieces. He was preceded in death by his 1st wife, Glenda Rudd Huntley; his wife, Peggy Simmons; his parents; great grandchildren, Aiden Burns and Troy Burns; two sisters, Sandra Hall and Shelby Williamson; a brother, Freddie Simmons; and a nephew, Derrick Roach.
A service to celebrate his life will be held 1:00 PM Wednesday, January 31, 2024 at Altamahaw Baptist Church by Rev. Walter Jones. Interment will follow at Alamance Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 11:30 – 12:45 Wednesday prior to the service at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Altamahaw Baptist Church, 3445 Altamahaw Church St, Elon, NC 27244.
