Barbara Elizabeth Schmidt Mebane

Burlington, NC – Barbara “Bobbye” Elizabeth Schmidt Mebane, 92, passed away at Spring Arbor of Cary on December 13, 2022.
Born in Raleigh, she was the wife of Grady Nelson “Chuck” Mebane, deceased, and the daughter of the late Robert Schmidt and Miriam Ellen Harling Schmidt. She was predeceased by her brothers, Frederick Harling Schmidt and Robert Perry Schmidt, Sr. Barbara graduated from Needham Broughton High School in Raleigh, NC and North Carolina Baptist School of Nursing in Winston-Salem, NC. As a Registered Nurse, she worked for Dr. Wallace Kernodle, Sr., Alamance County Hospital, and the Infirmary at Elon University. She was a member of First Christian United Church of Christ where she served as a Deacon and a member of the choir. Barbara enjoyed reading, singing, traveling, antiquing, crosswords/puzzles and being with friends. Those who knew her, knew she did not like to cook and enjoyed “eating out” with friends.
Survivors include two daughters, Tracy Demeyer (Steven) of Midlothian, VA, and Toni Sweesy (Christopher) of Cary, NC. She is also survived by four grandchildren: Alexander Paul Demeyer of Midlothian, VA, Brian Michael Demeyer of Raleigh, NC, Whitney Sweesy Hauser (Joshua) of Gastonia, NC and Christopher Bradley Sweesy, Jr. of Belmont, NC and one great grandchild, Jackson William Hauser, of Gastonia, NC. Also surviving are two cousins and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will take place at 2 pm on Saturday, January 14, 2022 at Lowe Funeral Home, Burlington. Prior to the service, the family will receive friends from 12:30 pm until the service. Burial will follow in Pine Hill Cemetery, Burlington.
