Bama Jean Smith Springer

December 31, 1938 — March 16, 2025

Gibsonville

Bama Jean Smith Springer, 86, passed away on Sunday, March 16, 2025, at Ashton Health and Rehab in McLeansville after defeating stage-4 cancer twice. She was born in Mobile, AL on December 31, 1938 to the late Hughie Ray Smith and Eula Ree Fendley (Smith) Phillips.

A natural explorer at heart, Bama spent over twelve years welcoming travelers at the Virginia Beach Information Center, but her own passport told a far grander story. Her adventurous spirit took her across the globe, from the bustling streets of Hong Kong and the Philippines to the historic landscapes of England and beyond. She found joy in the simple wonders of the world - tending to her vibrant flowers, watching birds, and embracing the companionship of her beloved pets.

Her greatest adventure, however, was the love she poured into her family. She leaves behind a legacy of warmth and devotion through her sons, Robert Springer (Rebecca) and Judson Springer (Melissa); her cherished grandchildren, Maggie, Grant, James (Ashlie), Jessica, Joshua, and Joseph Springer; and her great-grandchildren, Kyson and Hartlen Springer. She also leaves behind her dear sister, Mary Ann Strength (Jerry), and brother, James Hughie Smith, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family who will continue to carry her light forward. She is now reunited with her parents and her beloved sister, Rae Smith (Moody) McLendon.

Bama’s life will be celebrated at 5:00 PM on Saturday, March 29, 2025, at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel, officiated by Rev. Reid Dickens.

In lieu of flowers, the family invites you to honor Bama’s generous heart by supporting causes dear to her— Shriners Children’s Hospital, donate.lovetotherescue.org or to St. Jude Children's Hospital, www.stjude.org/donate.
