Burlington, NC - Beverly William Kippenhan, 90, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, April 10, 2018 at the Twin Lakes Community in Burlington, NC. He was born December 5, 1927 in Outagamie County, WI to the late Arthur O. and Lucille E. Stammer Kippenhan, and was the husband of 64 years to the late Ethel Jane Robinson Kippenhan.
"Kip" was a US Air Force Veteran. After completing his service, he continued his education, earning a BS and MS in Electrical Engineering, and an MS in Physics, from the University of Wisconsin - Madison. Kip worked for IBM for 36 years, retiring in 1989, and held several patents. He completed his career with IBM at Research Triangle Park. He and Jane were active members of Hudson Memorial Presbyterian Church during their years in Raleigh.
Following his retirement from IBM, Kip obtained an electricians license so that he could wire houses for Habitat for Humanity. He was always known as a "Good Neighbor Sam," willing to lend a hand or help fix just about anything. He was an avid bridge player, holding the rank of Silver Life Master, and continued to play until late 2017.
Survivors include his daughters, Nancy J. Kippenhan of VA, and Lynn D. Kippenhan Lewis and husband Andrew of IN; a brother, Cecil Kippenhan of WI; a sister, Joanne Kippenhan Sollecito of NY; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife and parents, and by a brother, Kenneth Kippenhan, and a sister, Janet Kippenhan VanAsten.
A service to celebrate Kip's life will be held at Twin Lakes in Burlington on Saturday, May 5, 2018 at 2:00pm.
