Mr. Avery "Gabe" William Williams, age 96 of 725 N. NC Hwy 87, passed away Monday May 7, 2012 at the Hospice Home after a couple years of failing health. A native of Alamance County, he was the son of the late Daniel Long Williams, Sr. and the late Jeanette Apple Williams. He was married for over 71 years to Margaret Preddy Williams who survives. He was the retired owner-operator of Williams Garage in Elon, NC for over 50 years and earned the reputation that when an automobile left the shop the job was done right. Avery was a member of Shamrock Evangelical Methodist Church where he earned 52 perfect attendance pins and was the Teen Sunday School class teacher for many years. Since he had no natural children these boys and girls became his children and he taught them Biblical and moral principals and followed them as they continued through life. Avery loved gardening, hunting and fishing and would like to thank all of his friends that allowed him to hunt and fish on their property. He had a very outgoing personality and never met a stranger. Mr. Williams is survived by his wife of the home and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters, Beatrice W. Johnson, Myrtle W. Huffman, Lenola W. Wyrick and Christine W. Bailey; and brothers, D.L. Williams, Jr. and K.T. Williams. The funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 AM Thursday, May 10, 2012 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Jimmy Burks. Interment will follow at Alamance Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6-8 Wednesday evening at the funeral home and other times at the residence. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff of Hospice and other friends for their generous and loving care during his illness. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Shamrock Evangelical Methodist Church c/o the Youth Group, 3519 Maple Ave., Burlington, NC 27215.
