Ava Danieley Ferguson, 98, of The Homeplace of Burlington, passed away Thursday, January 5, 2017 at the Hospice Home following a brief illness.
She was the daughter of the late George Albert "Pop" and Maggie Gerringer Danieley.
Ava was the oldest member of Bethel United Methodist Church. She was a long time member of the cemetery and worship committees as well as teacher of the Teenage Sunday School Class. She was a member of the adult choir and was honored in her later years with a plaque of her dedication to the music program and she still loved to sing and listen to the old favorite hymns. She participated in the church ladies society and was honored with a
lifetime membership pin. She was charter member of the Bethel Community "Young at Heart".
She attended Iseley Elementary School and graduated from Altamahaw-Ossipee in 1936. Her working career began in 1938 with Graber Manufacturing, Glen Raven Mills and she retired from Kellwood Hosiery in 1984.
One of her greatest accomplishments was overcoming cancer for 40½ years and she proudly wore her cancer survivor pin.
Ava made a great decision in 2007 when she moved from her residence on Mine Creek Road to establish new residency at Burlington Manor and in 2008 she became a resident of the Homeplace in Burlington. To each and every one of the employees of Homeplace we the family extend a special "thank you" for all your kindness she was shown during her stay at Homeplace. She loved each of you and would share that with her many visitors.
Survivors include her daughter, Jean Troxler and husband Don of Elon; granddaughters, Maria T. O'Ferrell and husband Brent of Elon and Donna T. Chandler and husband Brian of Yanceyville; great grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Jonathan O'Ferrell of Elon and Hannah and Emma Chandler of Yanceyville. She was preceded in death by brothers, Henry Danieley, Jesse Danieley, Asa Danieley, Buck Danieley, June Danieley and sisters, Mary Saunders and Margaret Beckom.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00am Tuesday, January 10, 2017 at Bethel United Methodist Church by Rev. Laura Dunlap, pastor, assisted by Guy Tilley and Danny Danieley.
Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Mrs. Ferguson will remain at Lowe Funeral Home until being taken to the church for services. The family will receive friends at Lowe Funeral Home from 5-7pm Monday and other times at the home of her daughter, Jean Troxler,1350 Underwood Rd., Elon.
